Historical compendium of the socioeconomic development of the Jambelí Region of the Province of El Oro-Ecuador

This article analyzes the socio-historical development of the Jambelí region, in the province of El Oro, Ecuador, with the objective of understanding its current situation and highlighting its key role in the provincial economy. The research is based on an exhaustive bibliographic review and on the hermeneutic analysis of scientific and documentary sources. The results show that Jambelí was historically an extensive area inhabited by native peoples, who took advantage of local resources for their subsistence and social organization. The region underwent important transformations: first, with the imposition of the Inca communal-tributary system, and then, with the arrival of the Spaniards, who established a complex social structure based on the coexistence of slavery, servitude and pre-capitalist relations. This historical journey provides a comprehensive understanding of the socioeconomic evolution of Jambelí and provides key elements for interpreting its relevance in the current situation of the province.
