The text presents the editorial position of Multiverse Journal of volume 5, number 8 of the January-June 2025 edition. At Editions Clio, we believe that academia and high-impact scientific publications have an, inescapable, responsibility to build bridges between the production of scientific knowledge and its practical application in the defense of human rights. Indeed, this issue has documented how rigorous research can inform public policy and civil society action in contexts of democratic crisis. It concludes that, at present, there are objective and subjective indicators that suggest the exhaustion of this unipolar world order, with the meteoric rise of China as a rival power to the “hegemonic West” standing out as the main disruptive factor.
